Spring Break

I love the fact that I have a profession that lets me still look forward to spring break. Randel couldn't stand the idea of me being off so he ended up taking the week off as well. We got to spend the first 3 and a half days just relaxing on our own since Anthony was visiting Mia and Grandad. It sure is weird to not have a toddler to run around behind all day. We played frisbee golf together, hung out at the park, watched a movie during the day, sat and had lunch and just enjoyed spending time together. We missed our little guy by Thursday and were super excited to get to see him again. I think breaks like that are sometimes needed in a relationship and we are grateful to have family that can give us that. Thursday we headed to Houston to see Abuelo and Abuela. Then we spent most of Friday in traffic heading to Galveston since it was windy and chilly we only spent about an hour there but it was still fun to see Anthony playing in the sand. Saturday we headed over to the Houston Rodeo. Anthony rolled around on a hill, saw cows, pigs, sheep and goats and got to ride on some cool tractors. Overall we had a wonderful relaxing spring break and now I can't wait for summer. Here are a few pics from the week. The bluebonnet ones were taken on our way back from Houston. We thought we found the best patch of bluebonnets until we drove a few miles further up and saw a huge field of them. Oh well, I still think these came out nice.

What the hail is going on?

Our thoughts as we heard what seemed like bombs being dropped onto our house. If there had been planes flying around we would have believed there was a war going on out there. For almost 10 minutes we were hit by the gigantic sized, perfectly round balls of hail. When the storm was over we were left with three broken windows in the house and 2 in randels car.

Dog food everywhere

You leave him a lone for a minute and this is what happens. He wanted to make sure the doggies had food and thought he could do it on his own. Notice the dogs aren't even in the house but at least their dog bowl is now full. I walked in and he said "hi mama" and had this " I helped feed the doggies aren't you proud of me" look. I couldn't get mad.

Go Bears!

I am a UT graduate so that makes me a longhorn fan. But, as everyone knows Randel is a die hard Baylor Bear fan. So even though I live in the city where most bleed orange I find myself cheering for the Bears today against the Longhorns in tonights basketball game. I just can't bear to see Randel once again sit down with hope in his eyes and then see him be crushed so I really hope that the Bears pull it out and gain their first victory over the horns in a long long time. I think the stat is the Bears have lost the last 35 games against UT so here is hoping for a big miracle.
Speaking of the Bears, last weekend Anthony was able to join Randel and Jud in their annual father son trip to waco to watch a little basketball and baseball. This was the first time in 21 months that I was left all alone with no husband or child. I realized that as much as I sometimes want some alone time that I ended up missing them and thinking one night apart was just enough time. Mia (anthonys grandma) put together a little slideshow of their weekend so I figured I would post it for everyone.

Marbles,marbles, marbles!!!

Ok, so I try not to blog about my kiddos at school much. But if I did then man would you crack up. I have an awesome set of pretty funny kids who make me laugh everyday. The last few days there has been a marble situation. They are everywhere and every kid seems to have them. I am pretty laid back with my kids and it actually works pretty good, they are a good set of kids and respect me. But I have had to pick up marbles a lot this week. Today I picked them up from student "L". I was asked by student "L" if they would be returned at the end of the day. Since I know this students mother is very involved and would take care of this problem I said that I would happily give back the marbles at the end of the day to Mom and if Mom wanted to give them back then it was up to her. So at the end of the day I gave them to mom and she told me that her child had actually asked for a dollar the night before to buy some chips at lunch but later admitted that the dollar was to buy marbles from another student in class who said that for a dollar "L" could get 25 marbles. After my conversation with Mom I went over to "A" (the student aparently selling the marbles) When I asked "A" if marbles were being sold for money, student "A" said "Noooo, I didn't sell anything I was just giving them away." Of course he couldn't look me in the face and was giving all the tell tell signs of a kid that is lying to the teacher. I said that the selling of marbles was not allowed in the classroom and that they should be kept at home. Today there were no marbles in sight.

The thing that cracks me up is that for the past week this student has actually been a smart kiddo. It wasn't 25 marbles for a dollar it was actually 4 marbles for a dollar. A quarter a marble!!! No wonder this kid can afford those brand new Air Jordans every 3 months!!! At least he is finally learning how to count money.

Ok and since Randel said I wasn't allowed to post something without having a picture of Anthony here is a random pic.

Proud of his block tower.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Today is the Birthday of one of the most favorite book authors of many children. Dr. Seuss had his first book, Mulberry Street, rejected 27 times before it was finally published. He was 33 years old. Talk about never giving up. My students loved hearing about that.

In other news, I signed up to have my classroom adopted. As many of you know, I work in a very low income school and anything helps. Check out the link to the right and adopt our classroom. Thanks so much to our first very generous contributors, Jud and Sherry and Stacy and Stephen!!!! Woohoo you made my day!
